H1 2026 just produced more new unicorns than all of 2025. 195 new unicorns in the first half of 2026. That's already more than all of 2025. And we still have six months to go. Some numbers worth sitting with: → H1 2026: 195 new unicorns → Full year 2025: 193 → Full year 2024: 117 → Full year 2023: 102 The chart goes up and to the right in a way we haven't seen since H1 2022. A few things driving it: China went from 10 new unicorns in all of 2025 to 38 in just H1. The US still leads (110 companies, 56% of the total). The UK is third at 13. The sectors: robotics, AI neolabs, defense, chips. Not SaaS. The pace is also different this cycle. 19 companies raised follow-ons that doubled their valuation in six months or less. Etched: $5B to $10B in six months. Hadrian: $1.6B to $7.9B in seven months. The most valuable new entrant is DeepSeek at $50B — its first external financing. H1's new unicorns added ~$440B in value to the board. That's 5% of the entire board's value. In one half-year. The AI funding boom has a unicorn boom to match.
