John Cleese and Rowan Atkinson feel like the last two adults left in the room. Now that skin is being deliberately stripped away, and the only ones still trying to protect it are the ones the culture keeps trying to cancel. Cleese and Atkinson never asked to be heroes. They just refused to pretend. And in an age of mass pretending, that alone makes them extraordinary.

Silent protests are appearing in Scottish cities, particularly Glasgow. Groups of people, mostly men, dressed in black, standing in formation without chants or speeches. The mainstream response has been predictable with rapid labelling, historical analogies, and institutional alarm. Less attention of course is given to the conditions that produce this kind of demonstration in the first place. Large parts of the public now feel that their legitimate concerns about crime, demographic change, and the erosion of social trust are routinely dismissed making disciplined and wordless protest one of the few remaining avenues. Silence, in this context, is refusal. Whether one agrees with the form or not, the underlying signal is clear. Significant numbers of people no longer believe that normal political channels will protect their interests or even acknowledge them. This afternoon, I had the scare of my life. When my subway train stopped at Broadview station, I heard a faint voice calling out, “Help, help me, please.” It didn’t seem to come from anyone in the car, so I stood up and looked out onto the platform. Suddenly, I saw a man lying on the tracks. He was blind and had fallen, injuring himself. Without thinking, the man next to me, who you see in the photo wearing the animal shirt, jumped down onto the tracks to help him. Luckily, two other men also rushed to help, and everything turned out okay. Please share this photo. These men need to be recognized as heroes. Yesterday I went shopping at one such store and the lady checking receipts at the exit was stopping everyone. I didn't choose to participate in that nonsense, I had already filled my trolly, emptied my trolly and scanned the items, refilled my trolly and so I just skipped the exit line and left. I heard her saying "Umm - Excuse me “ as I kept walking and raised the receipt above my head, leaving the store. You can either trust me to do self-checkout, or you can put your cashiers back in place like it used to be. • I'm not interested in proving that I did your job for you. • If you want me to be a cashier with no training then that's your problem not mine. • Keep employing young people and give them job opportunities.
