@BoremanMatt @yuanyi_z Right to work, reasonably easy house building, and AC have created a 40 year boom in US South that's accelerating. I don't see either of those 2 policy choices happening in UK
@BoremanMatt @yuanyi_z Regional development has been tried again and again across the US and Canada. Always fails.. You need to invent air conditioning to get your desired level of change in economic geography. Or just massively liberalize house construction.
@JoelBeighton @BoremanMatt Not sure how admittedly but not my job, tough one.
@KopFinest @BoremanMatt Some are terrible. Nobody is interested in sorting it though.
@BoremanMatt @JoelBeighton Yeha lol some roads are a nightmare to drive down
@BoremanMatt @KopFinest Should just close the crossroads IMO and spread it out there. It’s only a cut through between Eccy and Abbeydale Road, so wouldn’t make much difference for a few hours.
@graemehein @yuanyi_z I’m more on about creating more pockets of high value jobs, those people can be 20 minutes from one another, but when the wider firm needs to connect they’re only, say, 60 mins apart. A well connected north could effectively create another mini London (on a par long long run).
@BoremanMatt @yuanyi_z Agglomeration theory is important. It's not just about being ~60 minutes from Bank. It's having colleagues and business partners within 20 minutes of your house. Living in Chelsea is far more useful than Milton Keynes
@JoelBeighton @KopFinest Said while we were there, they need to have the bollocks to close some more roads and spread it out. Markets often better in theory than practice I find… Do like Nether Edge, too many cars mind, most of which 80%+ on the pavement.
@yuanyi_z Is there not quite a big argument to invest more into infrastructure both within regions and into connecting the regions with London (and each other) so that more places can more commonly have £100k+ jobs so the housing/consumption demand from those people is more spread out?
@pearson208 @olliejustmoans That’s what makes it good though, it’s just your town/city having its moment. Same reason supporting these ‘global,’ top six clubs isn’t as good.
@LalaBean1 @Botanygeek I find this remarkably naive to be honest.
@BoremanMatt Oh aye the badge looks shite like that tbh, you could probably argue it’s far worse since it’s essentially a centre piece of the shirt whereas that fucking england flag everyone’s rattled about is a tiny bit on the back of the collar 😭
@44_sufc Ironically, I am dead against this but (obviously) have zero qualms with the flag thing.
@WeahsCousin Mad thing is what’s he saying isn’t that unusual - need a defensive midfielder who’s more mobile because the fullbacks piss off up front a lot - but why do they insist on talking like such dweebs? Obvs pretentiousness, but also reckon often people who didn’t grow up with football
