This talk by @aleksandrasays on TS Performance is absolute 🔥 youtube.com/watch?v=lJ63-j… Some takeaways: Break your big type helpers into smaller ones TypeScript caches the result of generic types by their names. That means the smaller and more focused your type helpers are, the easier it is for TS to cache them. Got a 60-line type-helper called ComputeThing? Break it up into smaller pieces. Use tsc --generateTrace to generate performance traces for Chrome Dev Tools tsc --generateTrace outDir This outputs a set of JSON files you can pull into to the Chrome Dev Tools to see exactly which files are problematic.

So while I think some people are more talented at holding more of a software system in their head, I also think it's something you can actively train, and not only by working with code on your job. More importantly, your job isn't comprehensive training, just part of a balance

@hillelogram I honestly don’t think it’s a thing you learn. I can hold reasonably large things in my head, but I’ve met folks who are apparent savants who can hold much more. They weren’t more experienced and didn’t spend any more time learning than me. Some people just can.

Everyone knows "Navigate Backward" (Ctrl-) right? "Last Edit Location" in @JetBrainsRider works similar, but only considers places that you've recently edited. Very helpful when you search for something, and then want to continue where you've left off! ⏪💡
