It’s actually a common practice in real democracies to hold politicians and heads of states accountable for any criminal offenses they commit while in office. The U.S. is not the one “exception” because that would imply they’re a democracy.

It seems intentional that the one time this is finally occurring (in a nation where the populace has been effectively deterred from any impactful form of public dissent or rebellion), it has nothing to do with crimes that were committed in office.
