President Trump thinks he needs to moderate on abortion to win the election. He’s probably right. Most Americans want abortion. As Rod Dreher says, with the Dobbs decision Christians won a legal battle but we’ve lost the culture war. There’s still a pragmatic argument for Trump. He wasn’t a social conservative in 2016 and he’s not now. But at least he’ll address other problems – unrestrained immigration, spending and inflation, wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, censorship. That’s plausible, but superficial. “Social” concerns like abortion and homosexuality aren’t tangential to other issues. They’re fundamental causes of all our political crises. The living God is active among nations. He blesses and curses as nations honor or defy His Son, His Word, and His Bride. When Israel broke covenant, Yahweh impoverished them, subjected them to aliens (Deut 28:43-44), and surrounded them with the foreign voices of invaders (Deut 28:49). Yahweh rains down these curses because Israel pursues idols, commits fraud, sheds innocent blood, and indulges sexual immorality (Isa 57:7-8; Jer 22:1-3), which sicken the land until it vomits Israel into exile. Let’s say the US is being invaded. Let’s agree we're less dominant than we used to. We’re drowning in debt. Why are these things happening? As with Israel, they’re judgments on our bloodlust, sexual libertinism, greed, and idolatry. If that’s true, we can’t fix immigration by plugging the border. As long as we keep murdering innocents, a wall isn’t going to stop the Avenger. We won’t be head among nations unless we repent of our sexual perversions and demolish our idols, including Mammon. Voting for a temporary fix makes tactical sense. But we shouldn’t be fooled: A President who accommodates our culture of death and prideful desire is papering over our basic problem, which is that our sins are a stench in God’s nostrils.

@MrBully67 @PLeithart But Yahweh = the ultimate Accepter (Lv). He, therefore, is, in a sense, Cyclopian—the archetypal Monster. Yet He initiates and authorizes us to “play a joke” on Him, though He’s in on it. Maybe it’s both disguise and transfiguration (e.g. Zc, Sg, 1-3 Jn, Rv).
