This is a legit bombshell washingtonpost.com/history/2023/0…
an outright fabrication that shaped (for the worse, i think) the way millions of americans thought about the relationship between king and malcolm
@jbouie isnt surprising in the least. Our intelligence agencies were going so hard making shit up about these two.
@jbouie this is wild. if Haley was lying about this, it really casts doubt on so much else.. like the *entire* autobiography??
@jbouie @mrbrownsir Trying to articulate any response in the irrationality that is slavery in all of its contexts and timeships (like neo, pre, asleep, post) is almost an exercise in certain madness; as slavery in all of its forms, styles, history and evolution is quintessentially madness, defined.
@jbouie @nickfrenchnyc But this was evidently accurate: "But I know that I have so often felt that I wished that he would talk less of violence, because I don’t think that violence can solve our problem." So.
@jbouie @rhonda_harbison Thank you for the article. 🙏🏽
@jbouie As the article shows, King disagreed with Malcolm X's methods (not exactly news). It looks like Haley overdramatized them but in no way changes King's view of contrast between the two men. Further, King could have renounced the interview but didn't. Not bombshell.
@jbouie This may surprise many of you but the reality was both were necessary at the time and it may well be neither one wanted to change the narrative. When it was time they stood together in public to announce their total respect and love for each other.
