Look, I think you should be able to be a billionaire if you can earn it, but just pay your fair share. I think you ought to pay a minimum tax of 25%. It’s about basic fairness.
@POTUS I paid 53% taxes on my Tesla stock options (40% Federal & 13% state), so I must be lifting the average! I also paid more income tax than anyone ever in the history of Earth for 2021 and will do that again in 2022. @CommunityNotes, is the 3% number cited above accurate?
@POTUS @CommunityNotes I certainly agree that everyone should pay taxes and not engage in elaborate tax-avoidance schemes. Would be curious to hear how these other “billionaires” are so good at avoiding taxes! We should get rid of GRATs, but maybe other things too.
@elonmusk @POTUS @CommunityNotes But did you kick up to "big man" enough?
@elonmusk @toogutMan @POTUS @CommunityNotes Just a reminder to everyone—Elon is a rightwing media mogul with massive conflicts of interests in various fields that require government oversight and regulation—who’s openly and not so openly—utilizing his giant personal social-media platform to serve his own political purposes
@elonmusk @subschneider @POTUS @CommunityNotes Insane amount of taxes! Biden instead funnels monies through the loopholes to avoid taxes. Great example he is.
@elonmusk @POTUS @CommunityNotes Think about this. Working families making 250k range are paying out the nose. I actually know people that gave up income for help with kids’ college money. Dropping down to 70k and they’re better off than making more money. And not paying much in taxes.
@elonmusk @Thomasdiscerns @POTUS @CommunityNotes What did you pay in taxes as a percentage of your total net worth? We can debate whether that’s an appropriate question, but that seems the source of 3%.
@elonmusk @POTUS @CommunityNotes Half of $2 billion is still $1 billion though. $1 billion is an amount that could buy anything anyone could ever desire plus more.
@elonmusk @POTUS @CommunityNotes The 3% (or 8%) is based on unrealized capital gains, not actual income. If someone thinks those gains should be taxed, think again – when your apartment or house gains value, would you, be willing to pay tax for the gain each year?
@elonmusk @POTUS @CommunityNotes From 2014 to 2018, the richest 25 Americans saw their worth rise a collective $401 billion from 2014 to 2018 while paying $13.6 billion in federal income, or 3.4%. propublica.org/article/the-se…
@elonmusk @cyberpsychorome @POTUS @CommunityNotes what's tax rate on mars?
