To add on/explain: If you are under 18 in China, your Douyin account is set to "teenager mode" which will only show whitelisted content. If you're under 14, your account is set to "Youth Mode," which means the algorithm will push educational content like science and history vids.

Both modes limit the amount of time you can spend on the app to 40 minutes a day, and only between the hours of 6am-10pm.
@catcontentonly How does the app determine that ? Is it by birthdate entered by the user ? Or does it use other methods like ID or being connected to the parents account? I very much support the idea and not against it at all just curious on how it's enforced
@catcontentonly First time I see you on video 😊, I think it’s really cool that people reach out to you and want to hear your opinions and broadcast them. You should remain proud of this👍
@catcontentonly These same people think it is perfectly normal to give kids hormone therapy and cut their pecker off if they think they are a girl.
@catcontentonly @chinahand Thats correct, working on CSM everyday, douyin is more healthier, not only for kids but also for everyone. It’s important to filter certain level, not only good for society but also for algorithms.
@catcontentonly So now the US wants these “draconian restrictions” huh?
@catcontentonly I wonder if any Chinese youth has ever celebrated their 18th birthday with a midnight Douyin post of "Fucking finally! Binge and shitpost modes unlocked!" Terms and conditions still apply tho. Unlike US poasters, no Chinese user has ever shitposted their way to General Secretary
