I believed propaganda for the same reason someone raised in a religion believes its tenets: it was all I knew.

@some1guy929 "Contentious" is a far walkback from "imperialist". The fact is that China has a very, very, VERY long tradition of making sure each territory gets carried forward by every new government instead of getting lost to balkanization. They haven't needed white western help with it.

The reason we always hear the phrase "socialism with Chinese characteristics" is because China has an acute awareness that it's a unique nation with unique needs and values which don't apply everywhere else.
