If you're wondering what your child's teacher is doing this post-Thanksgiving weekend...there's a good chance they are working on lesson plans and/or sprucing up the classroom. Thank you to all #teachers It's a lot of unpaid time and effort for not nearly enough pay.

@_Jessica_Shaw I tried but I won’t be doing anything until tomorrow. But 15 years of doing that this year I said I was going to rest because three more weeks until Christmas break and it’s going to seem like 6 weeks. #teacherrest

@_Jessica_Shaw I will be finishing up report cards and getting ready for parent teacher conferences that are next week.

@_Jessica_Shaw Dang. This makes me sad for all you who are working for free. NOT this teacher. Relaxing, spending time with family, doing nothing, eating, taking care of me.

@_Jessica_Shaw Yep. Will be working on lesson plans Sunday and will have to get to school super early Monday morning to put equipment away and get all set up for new lessons. It was either do it the afternoon break started or do it this Sunday/Monday. Either way it’s outside contract hours. 🤷🏼‍♀️

@_Jessica_Shaw Everybody works hard but doesn't get summers & lots of holidays off. Many teachers like you are wonderful but most people have demanding jobs 60 hrs/wk, 50 wks/yr w 2 weeks vacation & comparable salaries prorated to 12 months, took calculus & difE, physics & chem in school.

@_Jessica_Shaw Just finished grading a stack of essays!

@_Jessica_Shaw @educationpalmer Teachers are dramatically underpaid. - They nurture our future leaders/talent - Protect your child from harm/danger - Often do both remote & in-person teaching (2 jobs) - Tasked with teaching the future of America Definitely worth a few extra bucks.

@_Jessica_Shaw Now I am reminded of the 2-3 hours of grading I need to get done.
