Giving an injury prone pitcher, albeit an all-time great one, a five-year guaranteed contract at those numbers is a humongous gamble. The @Mets made the absolute right decision walking away. They know him better than anyone and knew it wouldn’t be wise to even come close.

@RealMichaelKay @Mets he didn't give the Mets the chance to match. So we don't know if they made the decision or not.

@TmkSburner @RealMichaelKay @Mets They are paying a 40 something pitcher who has had injuries the past 3 years $43 mill. Degrom was injured early in career then rattled of great seasons. Maybe if they had a bullpen his workload may have saved these past 2 years along with covid and lockout. #stern is not losing $

@Cheers464646 @RealMichaelKay @Mets How many games did Scherzer and deGrom each start this past season? Can you answer that question?

@TmkSburner @RealMichaelKay @Mets JD 11. Schwarz we not sure. How many playoff series did they win. If you are a Mets fan you can not believe that you are better off with just Scherzer. Atl came back like gangbusters and 101 wins got you a wc and early exit. Not a Mets fan just a realist. Showalter is mgr.

@Cheers464646 @RealMichaelKay @Mets Scherzer started 23 games this past year. And you say "with just Scherzer." My guy, the winter meetings haven't even started yet! Can we please not act like the mets aren't going to get more pitchers before April?

@TmkSburner @RealMichaelKay @Mets Cool Mets are better off with Degrom in Texas. Scherzer will be healthy for the next 2 years and your crystal ball is the only one that matters.

@Cheers464646 @RealMichaelKay @Mets Or maybe lets' take the middle ground and wait longer than 10 minutes after deGrom leaves to condemn the Mets to a 120-loss season. Sheesh.
