If you're a PRO who witnesses possible felony records destruction, you need to understand: the @AGOWA is not a safe reporting channel. They defend the agency, not the employee. Your report can be handed straight to leadership. Talk to your union or private counsel first. #waleg

If you’re a PRO in Washington, know this: You are not the client! The @AGOWA response to a felony records-destruction report didn’t confirm an investigation, didn’t explain their procedure, and didn’t answer whether the law is enforced. Protect yourself. #waleg
Washington has a felony statute for destroying public records. Ep. 14 asks the obvious question: What if the @AGOWA simply chooses not to enforce it? Spoiler: you get retaliation, silence, and a system that protects the accused.#walegtinyurl.com/mryv4dvj
Posting this story late Wednesday before Thanksgiving may not get the traction deserved, but @WJamieNixon has done the work. I just get to share his efforts!

Former Redistricting Commissioner April Sims admitted to then AG @GovBobFerguson that she deleted public records from her phone, and he did nothing. Without enforcement, these laws will continue to be ignored and broken over and over #waleg
Records suggest the @AGOWA was informed of this incident, and did not investigate it. If that is the case (that the AG did not look into this), that isn't surprising in the least. #waleg
In Ep. 13, we pull the curtain back on an alleged incidence of felony records destruction at OMWBE. "What happens if someone is asked to delete some TEAMS posts and was told it was because of a records request?" YIKES! #waleg
In our latest episode, we shine a light on an allegation of felony records destruction inside Washington’s Office of Minority & Women’s Business Enterprises (OMWBE). A staff member says she was told to delete Teams posts because of a public-records request.
Yes, really. #waleg
This episode isn’t about confusion or poor training.
It’s about accountability and what happens to public servants who refuse to participate in a cover-up. Full transcript + source documents linked in the episode notes. #walegtinyurl.com/55t72t86
OMWBE’s own Public Records Officer documented the incident, reported it up the chain, and tried to uphold the law. Her reward? Months of obstruction, exclusion from decision-making, and what appears to be targeted retaliation, ending in a written reprimand. #waleg

Records retention is based on the content and function of the record not the location or channel where the records was created, shared, or stored… And it is certainly not based on the convenience or lack thereof of those charged with executing the law. #waleg
She then suggests that agency convenience take priority over the proper retention of the people’s records by supporting keeping a 7 day vs. a 30 day auto-deletion policy of your public records. #waleg
Ep 11! We discuss the danger of not being specific enough when listing all the communications platforms you want an agency to search for records. Also, @bill_lucia joins me for a discussion about @GovBobFerguson’s approach to the press and public relations. #waleg
