4 minutes agoHouthi drone attack on the convoy of GoY Defense Minister Daari, Chief of Staff Bin Aziz, & Ta'iz Governor Shamsan in Ta'iz Governorate. Not sure who's alive, who's dead yet. This is a huge escalation. They need to stop gathering like they're not at war. almasdaronline.com/articles/271476

19 hours agoWe are firmly in the land of trans adults being targeted. I have watched in recent weeks as bills have shifted to targeting trans adult insurance, incarcerated trans adults, clinics that provide care to trans adults, and more. vice.com/en/article/qjv…

19 hours agoThe latest research shows upzoning/deregulation leading to a 0.8% increase in housing supply over 3-9 years.
An effective ban on short-term rentals could accomplish a greater supply increase much sooner.
#YIMBY where will you focus your efforts?

a day agoWhat’s been truly heartening in this Anti Homosexuality Bill saga, is the Ugandans from all walks of life risking all to stand in solidarity with LGBTIQ+ communities. The ‘Munno mu kabi’ (friend in need) spirit is unbreakable. That’s the Uganda I know & love.

10 hours agoSo much of my energy as a child was spent convincing my mother not to sell our house. In a turbulent early life, it was my anchor. Even today, it anchors our family unit. Ppl who treat housing as this fungible commodity instead of as a place ppl make their lives are so weird. twitter.com/DanImmergluck/…

a month agoThe Jewish diaspora is today criticizing Israel in terms that arguably “demonize” it (fascist, racist), single it out (ie, don’t equally criticize other govts), & challenge Israelis’ right to self-determination in democratic elections. 1/

11 hours ago"Central in growing [shipping] costs are the rising rates of insurance for ships In 2010...the cost of a binder for vessels transiting the Gulf of Aden reached $20,000 per voyage, excluding injury, liability, and ransom coverage... a 40-fold jump in cost from 2007-2008."

11 hours agoThe [Suez] Canal...currently draws more than 20,000 ships into the Gulf of Aden every year, [constituting] 95% of European member states’ trade by volume. [One scholar] asserts that the Gulf of Aden “is one of the most, if not the most, traveled sea routes in the world.”

12 hours ago"2000 years ago Cicero placed the pirate outside of normal law—in the complicated position of a criminal beyond criminality. Long predating any conception of human rights, Roman statesmen conceived the pirate outside of the human by virtue of the threat they posed to humanity."

19 hours agoit seemed pretty normal when I was inside it but now that I'm out its really wild how the US immigration system- and particularly the State Department's visa issuance- can not just screw up your life, but it doesn't even have to explain to anybody why it did so.

20 hours agoThe United States House of Representatives has just passed the "Parents Bill Of Rights" 213-208.
It is the first national bill that targets transgender youth.
It contains provisions that forcibly out them to their parents, forces teachers to misgender them.
