There is a simple fix to this disturbing trend. We need more of an emphasis on school sports for they offer a structured, phone-free social connection during critical developmental years. Regular exercise demonstrably reduces depression through neurochemical pathways. Team environments create belonging & identity outside digital validation loops. Coaches provide consistent adult mentorship often missing in overscheduled families. Athletic achievement builds genuine self efficacy vs curated online personas. Most critically, sports consume the discretionary time teens would otherwise spend scrolling, directly displacing the algorithmic exposure driving depression rates. H/T @RudyHavenstein
