Thomas Wolfe had it all wrong. You can go home again. I'm proving it by returning to the Capital Times, where my first tour of duty spanned 39 years (1971-2010) Madison, WI Joined May 2009-

How Mark Johnson has influenced culture of UW women's hockey captimes.com/sports/sense-o…
UW moving on with questions .. and without CE3 captimes.com/sports/wiscons…
In 3 B10 Tournament wins, including Purdue upset, the Badgers had a combined 28 turnovers. High was 13. Even in their Illinois loss, they turned it over just 7 times. Versus James Madison, they were guilty of 19 turnovers leading to 27 points. Not going to beat anyone that way.
There was a sliver of hope midway through 2nd half thanks to the 3-point shooting of Max Klesmit. There was also a dramatic swing when Klesmit's layup hung on the rim before falling off. Could have cut deficit to 4. Instead, James Madison hit 3 at the other end to seal the deal.
To paraphrase Charles Barkley: Until you see them in person, it's different than what you see on tape. He was addressing handsy-urgent-physical defense James Madison stunned the Badgers with from onset. Took them out of everything they wanted to do on offense and turned them over

It has been a good athletic stretch for James Madison University. The football team went 11-2 and its coach Curt Cignetti has moved on to take over the Indiana Hoosiers. Now the hoops team is in the Big Dance. How did the Dukes get here? Why are they Dukes?captimes.com/sports/its-bad…
Tyler Wahl began growing his beard after the Arizona loss. 'I didn't shave because we went on that little run.' The UW won 6 straight and 9 of 10 before hitting a February slump. Wahl kept the beard. Now he's looking to make another run ... to 2nd weekend. captimes.com/sports/wiscons…
First to the Floor. It's an apt buzz phrase for how much heart Kamari McGee plays with. After AJ Storr poked it free from Marcus Domask, McGee outhustled Luke Goode to the 50/50 ball - he just wanted it more - flipped it to John Blackwell who got an assist on Storr's silky jumper

What you need to know about the Badgers opponent in the NCAA tournament and why so many pundits are picking an upset captimes.com/sports/its-bad…
Seconds after UW-James Madison matchup was revealed in South region, CBS analyst Seth Davis had James Madison winning this 5-12 game. He went on the record saying JMU is going to the Sweet 16 meaning a 2nd round win over likely Duke (Davis' alma mater). Pundits went heavy on 12's
Can you imagine if Terrence Shannon and AJ Storr were teammates and attacking the rim from either wing? Me neither. Only one ball. But they put on a show with their creative shot-making and downhill, full speed ahead approach to playing offense. Inside. Or outside. Treat to watch
Not having Tyler Wahl for the closing minutes was costly. Fouled out with 3:32 left and the Badgers leading 82-81. Even though he struggled offensively in the B10 tournament, it's hard to replace all the other things that Wahl does to impact winning at both ends. Unkind whistle.
Not much separated these teams to the end. After Terrence Shannon broke 85-tie with dagger 3, the Badgers were guilty of critical empty possessions (AJ Storr turnover, Chucky Hepburn missed layup) that allowed the Illini to close out game from the FT line. Won the game at stripe.
When AJ Storr scored 30 points in the UW's win over Northwestern, it matched a school record for the B10 tournament. In 2012, Rob Wilson had 30 vs Indiana. Here's why Wilson's game still ranks as one of 5 special moments from the league's postseason event: captimes.com/sports/badgers…
Nobody more deserving to 'Jump Around' today than this team. And this head coach.

With all due respect to Zach Edey, a physical freak and outlier, the math doesn't add up. How did he wind up with only 2 fouls (one was a technical)? Even CBS zebra expert Gene Steratore, a retired official, had trouble explaining Edey running over Tyler Wahl and Wahl fouling out
There are so many things that stand out about Max Klesmit. Things that don't always show up in the box score. Since transferring to the UW, he has stayed true to himself and type of player - and person - he is. But it goes beyond intangibles. He makes everyone around him better.

Best player on the floor was not Zach Edey, the soon to be 2-time national POY. Best player was Chucky Hepburn who completely outperformed Braden Smith. It wasn't a banked 3 for the game-winner. Like it was a few years ago. But he got UW into OT and set up the winning possession
