I'm still not convinced there is a spot these two are competiting for. I just can't see the Pirates carrying only one backup for second, third and short.

@battling_bucs I look at their bench as four spots: 1. Backup catcher (Heineman/Delay/TBD) 2. Fourth outfielder (Joe) 3. Backup infielder (Owings/Mathias) 4. Wild card (Smith-Njigba, Swaggerty, Bae) Would Bae address 3 and 4, yes. But Swag and CSN have been better. Far better.
@JMackeyPG I'm expecting it to be more like 1. backup catcher 2. 4th OF 3. Backup infielder 4. Utility (someone they are comfortable playing in both the IF and OF). Now I would like it to be more like what you are suggesting I'll just be surprised if that is the case.
@JMackeyPG @battling_bucs It’s spring training. Bae has to be on the team. Much better than both
@JMackeyPG @battling_bucs Do they think Mathias is better than Bae, Marcano, or any other utility guy we have or is he an insurance policy?
@JMackeyPG @battling_bucs Rather see swaggerty than Suwinski but don’t think that’s going to happen
@JMackeyPG @battling_bucs Why did Suwinski win the starting job? Terrible spring training, terrible BA last season, Swaggerty had the far better performance and is the better option in the OF especially now that he is finally living up to his draft position
