#EduTwitter: How do you get more of your students to participate in class discussions without cold calling? I'm trying to figure out how to get more of my students to feel more comfortable in sharing out. In reading their reflections, a lot of them feel like they may 1/

have the wrong answer & don't want to share because of that (despite giving them time to share their responses in small group before whole class discussions). I'm wondering if teachers have any tips to encourage more students to participate instead of the usual kids who do. 2/2

@HSTeacherinCA I know this sounds clichéd but I start with relationships. Even the kids that hate my class have no problem shouting out answers. Especially if they get to tell me what we're doing sucks/point out some mistake. Letting them have that freedom makes them more likely to take chances

@HHAlexanderSC Oh, I have a great relationship with the majority of them. I also have a lot in my Advisory as well, so this is my 3rd year with them (1st year English). I appreciate the ones that share even incorrect bc they’re at least trying, but the other ones…crickets (unless called upon)

@HHAlexanderSC I think I may try some more community building amongst them though bc I’m sure they don’t want to look “dumb” in front of their peers more so than me.
