Today is Pearl Harbor Day in the U.S., a “day that will live in infamy” for the unprovoked attack by the Empire of Japan upon U.S. forces stationed in Hawaii. But it also marked a dark turning point for Japanese Americans, who overnight became the “enemy.” At age 4, I was /1
classified as 4c, enemy alien, even though I was born in the U.S. Within a few months, the internment of our community was ordered by FDR with broad support from the American people, who turned their backs upon us. We lost our homes, our businesses and our freedoms. /2
@GeorgeTakei What continues to astound me George is it was Democrats who started putting Japanese-Americans in internment camps, yet you are a staunch advocate for Democrats. Thank you though for bringing this historical remembrance to light today.
@GeorgeTakei I am so sorry. White Americans have so much to seek forgiveness for.💔😞
@GeorgeTakei @threadreaderapp unroll please
@GeorgeTakei New low of playing the victim card there George. Not downplaying what happened, but you never cease to amaze me how you try making it about you. Be glad you weren’t one of the sailors trapped for over a week until death and remain inside that ship as their tomb.
@GeorgeTakei The attack was provoked by the American Navy patrolling the sea of Japan and threatening Japan’s oil supply and other supply chains
@GeorgeTakei It was such a tragedy that Japanese Americans were treated the way they were. Nothing done to the German or Italian Americans? Show the discrimination.
