🔎ULTIMATE GUIDE TO CUSTOMER RESEARCH🔎 No RT giveaway, just pure info. Better than any paid product. Okay let’s start: Where can you leverage all the information you gather? - CRO (duh) - Copywriting - Ads - Product Development (!!!) and more... If you don’t want to read the thread, then stay uninformed (respectfully), I'm giving you sauce right here. I'd appreciate any interaction, took me a while to write this up for you. ❓Method #1 - Surveys (and how to do them correctly)❓ ❓1.1 Purchaser Surveys (Email) This is probably the best place to start. First send out a survey with some kind of incentive to your list, specifically to past purchasers. These people are your ICP and have already bought from you. They are your most valuable audience, because they were convinced to spend their money on your business. Ask them these questions: - What convinced them to buy your product? - Did they consider any other brands? - Where did they see your ads? (Platform, make it multiple choice and include your traffic sources) - What would they improve about the product? - Did the product serve its purpose well? - On a scale from 1-10, how satisfied are they with the purchase? - Did you purchase again? - If NO, why not? What is stopping you? ❓1.2 Non - Purchaser Surveys (Email) This audience is very valuable for advertising and CRO and specifically. I would offer them a discount code / voucher to buy one product at cost. e.g. if your gross profit is 70% and your product costs $100, offer them a $70 voucher. If your product is good and worth it, this will also likely make them a repeat customer, making you money, LTV considered. Ask them: - Why did you not buy from us? - What would convince you to buy? - Did you buy from a competitor? - What made you interested in buying our products ? ❓1.3 Post Purchase Surveys This one is similar to the email purchaser one, but you can ask more about their buying experience. Because it's more recent than sending to email purchasers. - What almost stopped you from buying today? - What ultimately convinced you to purchase? - Did you encounter any issues while shopping on our site? - Where did you see our brand? (Traffic sources) - How can we improve the shopping experience? Just use @knocommerce for this. (@JeremiahPrummer and his team have the best product out there and continue to innovate. Big vouch from me, we use them for our clients) ❓1.4 Exit Intent Survey (iffy) This one's a bit iffy. There are pros and cons to this. !!This NEEDS to be A/B tested!! Pro: Gives valuable data (similar to non-pur email), can (in theory) capture more revenue due to offering a discount for completion and remove price friction, captures email to further nurture. Cons: Bad UX, can come across spammy, accidental triggers can hurt conversion rate + give unnecessary discounts to users who could have bought at full price Ask: - Why did you decide against buying our product? - What would make you buy? - Where should we send your discount code? (Email opt-in) ❓1.5 Talk to your customers This one is manual labor. Potentially hire a VA for this. Get the phone number from abandoned carts and call them ASAP. You can easily set up a slack automation to feed into a channel and just have someone call them right away. If you really want to be sophisticated with this, then you can also use a CRM. Make sure the calls are being recorded, and your caller takes notes during the call. Ask: Why they didn't complete their purchase? Do they have further questions about the product? (IF price is a mentioned issue) What price would they buy at? Offer them a discount code. (IF shipping cost was the issue) Would giving you a free shipping code make you complete your purchase? Do they want to know anything else (about the product)? ⛏️ 2. Review Mining ⛏️ This one is pretty simple. Export your data from your review app as CSV. Upload it to ChatGPT and feed it this prompt: "You are a review mining bot. Perform text analysis on our customer reviews to identify: 1. The most commonly mentioned pain points customers mention in their reviews that we managed to fix. 2. The overall satisfaction rate. 3. What we can improve according to customers. 4. What customers particularly like about our products. 5. The tone of voice of the reviews. 6. The average rating of the products. 7. Feedback on our customer support, including both positive and negative examples. After the analysis, provide a table with scoring that includes the top three best and most relevant excerpts from the reviews for each category. Make one column for good customer sentiment in that particular category and one for the bad.” You can also do the same with an Amazon scraper (APIfy has cheap and easy to use ones that work well) and scrape competing products reviews on Amazon to find out what customers disliked about your competition that you can fix. Also, you'll be able to create a great US vs THEM section with this info, to highlight what you already do better than them. 📊 3. CRO 📊 This one (should) be pretty obvious. You need to gather data from what works and what doesn't on your page. If you see certain things winning, then go and test using those things in your copy and advertising. It's the perfect feedback loop. e.g. Winning test focuses on X benefit on LP Leverage that benefit in your ad copywriting and creative. 💬 4. Forums & Groups 💬 Find the cohorts where your customers spend time and share organic insights. Examples: - Subreddits related to your niche / pain point - Forums - Facebook Groups - TlkT0k hashtags (read the comments!!!) - YouChube Videos (and their comments) 💭 5. Focus Groups 💭 Will just briefly mention those. They are part of it but not high ROI and are in a controlled setting. Not a huge fan. Also, can be very expensive. 🤔 6. User Testing 🤔 Again, not a fan. Just mentioning it because its part of it. This one is mostly for your website and UX. - Not a real world scenario - User Testers are likely to be more informed than the average consumer due to them getting paid to repeatedly do this task - Small Sample Size (unless you got $$$ to spend, but also not worth it) - Most likely not your actual ICP 🎥 7. Heatmaps & Replays 🎥 This one's pretty obvious. You need to sit down and analyze user behavior on your site. Watch replays of different types of customers (buyers, non buyers that spent lots of time on site, and cart-abandoners) Ideally, your site has elements that are specifically designed to be clicked so you can gather data from them. E.g. a list of promises your product makes with a "learn more" button. If you see one USP gets more clicks than others, this one is most likely to be an important one. There are some issues with this as well and I wouldn't take it as 100% accurate, but it's a super efficient way to get lots of data quickly. Use @msftclarity for this. There is no better tool out there. The best BY FAR. Also free. End. Hope this was helpful. Would appreciate any engagement if you found this thread helpful or valuable. Make sure your branding is so A1 that your customers have no choice BUT to rep your brand to others. Fun fact: Word of mouth is still the best form of marketing there is out there..
