For Memorial Day I am reminded of Aeschylus and remember when Bobby Kennedy quoted him upon the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr: “Let us dedicate ourselves to what the Greeks wrote so many years ago: To tame the savageness of man and make gentle the life of this world.”
@BrianKarem Imagine, just for a moment, DJT bringing these words to mind and speaking them. Betcha you can't do it.
@BrianKarem @jentaub Everytime I watched this speech, I teared up.
@BrianKarem A memorial book on RFK a friend gave me remains nearby after all these yrs.- that quote being my favorite!
@BrianKarem I mourn the loss of honorable public servants such as Bobby Kennedy. We are all poorer and less free. #RestInPower
@BrianKarem @kurtbardella Speaking after the murders at the Navy Yard, Pres Obama refers to Kennedy’s citation of Aeschylus with another: “Even in our sleep, pain which we cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart until in our despair, against our will, comes wisdom through the awful grace of God.”
