Just a few weeks ago many were going out of their way to criticize Syrskyi, say his tactics were going to bleed the Ukrainians too much and lose Bakhmut as well. He is taking those criticisms head on (and his critics have fascinatingly gone very quiet).

Yes, the perfect strategy: keep your forces trapped in an operative encirclement, continue losing doctors and experienced troops attempting to enter or leave a city located in lowlands, and then use reserves intended for a different offensive to break encirclement, so you can be praised as Bakhmut savior.
@Tatarigami_UA @PhillipsPOBrien Do you think the urban legend of Mariupol & Azovstal has created a toxic decision-making culture that fetishizes last stands instead of sensibly retreating good order?
@Blueelectron4 @Tatarigami_UA @PhillipsPOBrien Loss ratios are still way favourable for ukraine so calling this a last stand does it a disservice. The urban environment benefits Ukraine for now
