In conjunction with Dr. Meredith Wills, Insider found evidence MLB used three distinct baseballs in 2022. The balls show up in distinct places in our sample. Oh! A player got a stern warning from the league for trying to help. Balls don't lie, Part 2: insider.com/mlb-used-two-b…
Dr. Meredith Wills (@Bbl_Astrophyscs ) obtained over 200 baseballs across the 2022 season and playoffs. Her largest sample ever. Some were old-school heavy "juiced". Way more were "dead." But we found 36 balls that, based on their construct, are likely bouncier than the deads.
(Btw, we're calling this new ball we found MLB using "Goldilocks" cause the weight average is roughly in the middle of juiced and dead. Not too hot, not too cold, y'know?)
But what's wilder, imo, is *where* we found Goldilocks. Last year we had no discernable pattern. Within our sample this year, most Goldilocks balls show up in the 2022 postseason or regular season Yankees games. Almost every other baseball in every other location was dead.

@BWDBWDBWD So the Yankees got given juiced balls starting in August and the entire offense (outside of Judge) stopped hitting completely? How does that make any sense?
@BWDBWDBWD @MarcSterne can you show this to Mr. T?
@BWDBWDBWD Trying to make it easier for the Yankees only to get swept😂😂you can’t stop the Astros they are a machine
