Next week will continue our discussion on debt by focusing on one of the biggest debts now being faced - STUDENT LOAN DEBT

Debt can feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders, but you don't have to do it alone. Jennifer Lamers-Sommer is more than happy to sit down with you to discuss where you're at, where you'd like to be, and more strategies for how to get there.

A second strategy for reducing debt is the Snowball Method. Here you first pay off the debt with the smallest balance. This is based on the psychology that paying of a small debt in its entirety is motivating. It also frees up that small amount to put towards the next debt.

Today we're going to talk about a strategy for reducing debt: High Cost Debt First Method - You pay off the debt that has the highest cost to you. Usually this means the debt with the highest interest rate.

What's the difference between Installment Loans and Revolving Credit? Installment Loans allow you to borrow a set amount of money and pay plus interest over loan term. Revolving Credit you are given a maximum credit limit and repay it based on how much credit you have used.

GOALS FOR SAVING: 1. First, get $1000 saved in a savings account 2. Once $1000 is saved AND you've paid off your high-interest debt, grow into 3 months' worth of your monthly expenses. 3. Once you've saved 3 months' worth of monthly expenses, grow that into 6 months' worth

SAVINGS TIP 3: Ensuring you understand the difference between wants and needs is critical when it comes to saving money. A need is something critical to your survival. A want is simply something that makes survival more comfortable.

SAVINGS TIP 2: To help you save consider throwing ALL your loose change in a jar at home. At the end of the month you can take a percentage of it to donate and deposit the remainder into savings. Small steps can make BIG changes.

SAVINGS TIP 1: "The best savings advice I ever received was from my mother. She always told me, pay yourself first." ~ Jennifer Lamers-Sommer. This means treating your savings like it's a bill to be paid. The recommended amount you save from your income is 10%.
